Snow Shoeing at Rabbit Ears Pass

Monday, 13 November 2006
Last Sunday Julie and I decided to go snow shoeing up in the mountains. They had just gotten a lot of snow up there, and it was supposed to be snowing most of that day also. We had gotten about two inches of snow the night before in Craig. We had gone to church in the morning, and we ended up leaving about 11am. At that time the sun had popped out and the snow was already melting. But as we got up to the pass, we saw a sign that said the chain law was in effect because of the snow and ice. There was a good 10 inches of powder snow up on top, that must had fallen the night before. It made for really great snow shoeing. We just wandered around the woods for an hour and half and had a really good time.
After that we bummed around Steamboat Springs for a while and then headed back home. It ended up being a really nice Sunday.
I should also post this for you who don't know already. Julie and I are going to Alaska next summer! We bought the tickets about a week ago and have already started scheming as to what we are going to do. Our main objective is to visit Denali National Park and do some backpacking through that area, but we'll have two weeks there so we should be able to fit in a bunch of other stuff. We'll be gone the last week of July and the first week of August. So the planning stages will give us plenty to do leading up to the trip; a lot of researching. Just thought I'd let you know.
