Excitement and Aticipation

Well, we're one week away from spring break and we can hardly wait!! We have so many things to look forward to that we just can't wait to get started! :) Yesterday, we drove to Grand Lake (a favorite place of ours) to pick up a new backpack for Matt. (If you've read old entries and this sounds familiar, it's because it is! Matt just needed to exchange one and get a bigger one.) Matt's new pack!

While we were there, we went snowshoeing in Rocky Mountain National Park. Well, I'd love to post a picture, but we accidentally forgot the camera. Luckily, many of our entries this winter have been about snowshoeing, so let me just paint a mental picture of the scenery from yesterday's trip:

Start by picturing the mountains - rocky and unpredictable. Yes, this IS Colorado! :) Next, add a handful of pine trees, a few of which are dead and some are overtaken by pine beetles. After that, put in a big open meadow with a creek running through the middle making an elongated S shape. Next, cover the whole scene with a serene blanket of snow. Oh - paint the sky a grayish color with a tint of darkness to the west. There aren't any sounds except for a slight breeze through the trees. After you have the scenery set, add in Matt and me in our winter gear and snowshoes. Lastly, add in 2 grayjays that hovered around us like people friends rather than birds. I think you've got it!

Anyway, back to our exciting events planned... Next weekend, Matt and I are loading up our packs and heading to Canyonlands National Park in Utah for 5 days. We have a backcountry permit waiting for us on Sunday and we plan to spend the whole 5 days submersed in beauty. Can't wait! We will have lots of photos to post when we return. For once, you'll be glad that you can't physically see us because after 5 days, we're bound to smell just grand!

After spring break, Matt only has 3 weeks left of teaching at SoRoCo. His last day will be April 13th. 5 days after he gets done with his job, we leave to go to the Grand Canyon/Moab, UT as chaperons for the PE 3 class at Moffat County High School. A week of backpacking, hiking, mountain biking and rock climbing? Awesome! The dates for that trip are April 18-25. Matt will begin working for the BLM in Meeker again on April 30th. A month later, over Memorial Day Weekend, we are having company - Brady, Jill and baby Andrew! We are excited to see family and are so appreciative that Jill and Brady can steal away from everyday life for a Colorado retreat with us! How fun - baby Andrew's first plane ride! With spring right around the corner, I feel as if the world is starting to emerge again. Sometimes I get caught up in a "winter" mental state where I think time moves slower than normal and that there isn't anything to do. I think this year definitely proved that myth wrong! Matt and I have gone out snowshoeing more than we ever have and really seem to busy ourselves with work and each other. God puts us on this earth for such a short time that we have to take advantage of every moment we have. Next, we're looking forward to spending time together in new adventures in new territory and will keep you posted on our experiences! In the mean time, God's blessings on you!
