On Sunday, Matt and I went in search of some fall colors. Unfortunately, the sagebrush that surrounds Craig doesn't change to a bright yellow or deep rusty red color, so we were forced to drive elsewhere to satisfy our need for colorful fall foliage. We took off for Routt National Forest. The closer we got to the forest, the better the colors. However, there was underlying WHITE among the green, yellow and splash of red. Surprisingly, the colors had not fully changed yet. We weren't sure if the leaves were shocked because of the early snow, or if the leaves were trying to hold on until the last possible moment to change and then inevitably fall to the ground. The snow did look interesting with the scattered yellow aspen leaves on top! We went for a short hike and came back to the truck completely muddy, but satisfied after a couple hours in the woods. We drove up to Ripple Creek Pass and marveled at the snow. The snow was perfect for snowballs and snowmen, but we didn't partake. We enjoyed the fresh air, took a few photos, and headed back down. I'm guessing that we'll try it again another weekend before the snow closes us out for the season. Until then, enjoy the photos!
We were fortunate enough to be serenaded by some bugling elk!
Half of the picture looks like fall with the yellow Aspen trees, and the other half looks like winter with the snow hanging heavily on the branches of the Douglas Fir trees!
Guess what Matt was aiming for? ME!!! (Luckily, he missed.)
The sun was so bright against the fresh whiteness of the snow!
I'm already thinking about our Christmas letter this year.... it does look like Christmas! Matt even (jokingly) suggested we chop down our Christmas tree, but I thought it was a little early yet!
